NRA SEIZED GOODS FOR NON-COMPLIANCE

December 19, 2025

Rensis House, 5 Gloucester Street, Freetown – The National Revenue Authority (NRA), through its Excise Office of the Domestic Tax Department, yesterday conducted an enforcement operation along Abacha Street targeting retail outlets dealing in alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

This action followed several months of education and sensitization engagements with traders and shop owners on Excise tax obligations. During routine market compliance checks, NRA officers identified assorted excisable products being sold without the mandatory Excise Stamps, which serve as proof that Excise duties have been duly paid.

In accordance with the NRA’s legal mandate, the unstamped excisable products were seized for non-compliance with Excise tax regulations. Affected shop owners were informed of the breaches and advised on the necessary steps to regularize their operations.

The NRA wishes to remind all traders and importers that the sale of unstamped excisable goods is illegal. The Authority remains committed to enforcing Excise compliance to safeguard government revenue, ensure a level playing field for compliant businesses, and promote fair trade practices nationwide.
