The Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone has reaffirmed its commitment to peace and public safety by donating assorted food items to the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) as a morale booster ahead of the festive season.
The donation comprises 250 bags of 25kg rice, 20 bags of 50kg sugar, and 40 gallons of cooking oil. The gesture is intended to motivate police personnel to sustain effective and efficient policing during the busy end-of-year period.
Presenting the items, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy, Zhang Dianbin said the donation reflects the strong and longstanding bilateral relationship between the government and people of China and the Sierra Leone Police. He noted that the support forms part of China’s continued commitment to strengthening cooperation with the SLP and supporting its operations, particularly during periods that require heightened security and public engagement.
Zhang commended the SLP for its pivotal role in maintaining peace and stability across the country and expressed confidence that the donation would positively impact officers’ morale as they work to ensure a safe and peaceful festive season for all Sierra Leoneans.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Director of Operations, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) John Martin Senessie expressed profound appreciation to the government and people of China for their timely and consistent support to the SLP.
Quoting the popular adage, “An empty bag can not stand,” AIG Senessie emphasised the importance of welfare support in enhancing the morale and productivity of police personnel. He described the donation as timely, noting that it would significantly motivate officers who are expected to work tirelessly during the festive period to protect lives and property.
He assured the Chinese Embassy that the donated items would be utilised judiciously and in the best interest of police personnel, in line with the SLP’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and effective service delivery
The donation further underscores the cordial relationship between China and Sierra Leone and highlights the Chinese Embassy’s continued support to national institutions in promoting peace, security, and social stability.
