State House, Freetown, Tuesday 10 March 2026 – His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio has received a delegation from the National Mandingo Union of Sierra Leone, led by its President and Mansa, Alhaji Kanja I. Sesay, during a courtesy visit at State House.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the leadership of the Union to update the President on its activities and achievements, particularly efforts aimed at promoting peace, unity, and national cohesion among its members across the country.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Alhaji Kanja Sesay thanked President Bio for granting them an audience, explaining that the visit also served as a formal introduction of the current leadership of the Union. He highlighted the strong support the executive has received from members across all sixteen districts and reaffirmed the group’s commitment to peace and national unity.

He further disclosed that the Union has initiated a nationwide data collection programme for Mandingoes in Sierra Leone and has begun promoting the teaching of the Mandingo language among both children and adults to preserve the community’s heritage. He also highlighted the Union’s efforts in resolving internal disputes amicably and discouraging litigation among members.
In his response, President Bio congratulated the leadership of the Union for their efforts in maintaining peace and cohesion. He commended the Mandingo people for their contributions to national development and their long-standing tradition as traders and scholars who have integrated across different communities.
The President reaffirmed his government’s commitment to national unity and peaceful coexistence, noting that Sierra Leone’s strength lies in its diversity. He also applauded the Union’s initiative to preserve and promote the Mandingo language and culture.
