SLP, NC3 Boost Cybercrime Response Capacity Through Training

Kingtom, Freetown, 24 April 2026 – The Sierra Leone Police (SLP), in collaboration with the National Cyber Security Coordinating Centre (NC3), has commenced a one-day capacity-building training for its cybersecurity personnel at the Police Wives Association Multipurpose Hall, Kingtom Police Barracks.

The training, facilitated by NC3, is aimed at strengthening the skills and operational readiness of police cyber investigators to effectively respond to emerging cybercrime threats.

Welcoming participants, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) David Bayoh encouraged attendees to take full advantage of the training, emphasizing that continuous professional development is vital in tackling the increasing sophistication of cyber-related crimes.

In her remarks, the Strategy and Legal Affairs Specialist at NC3, Madam Lucy Joanica Allieu Esq., stated that the programme is designed to equip investigators with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to respond effectively to cyber incidents. She urged participants to make the most of the opportunity.

Speaking on behalf of the Director of Training, ACP Kamanda Bongay, who was absent due to other official engagements, the Head of Training Department, DSP Alpha Kamara, highlighted the growing collaboration between NC3 and the SLP in recent months.

DSP Kamara noted that the training aligns with the ongoing transformation of the SLP from a force-based institution to a service-oriented organization that prioritizes community-centered policing. While acknowledging the competence of the existing cybersecurity team, he stressed the need for continuous improvement, especially as many contemporary crimes now involve digital elements.

He described the training as timely and necessary to ensure investigators remain well-prepared to address evolving cyber threats, and encouraged participants to actively engage and cascade the knowledge gained to colleagues.

Delivering the vote of thanks, cyber investigator Isha Mariama Bangura expressed appreciation to NC3 and the leadership of the Sierra Leone Police for organizing the initiative.
